Jacob Goudreault ‘Red Pillow’

Kate Werble Gallery

13 May 17 - 17 June 17

Jacob Goudreault’s solo project exhibition, Red Pillow, is comprised of a single, oval-shaped painting installed alongside a wall many small paintings and strange, tchoke-like wall-hanging objects. Using images and materials traditionally associated with feminine sexuality, such as nighties and stockings, the works feature crudely painted figures and vulvic forms, onto which miscellaneous found objects are pasted: pennies, cut-out photographs, plastic figurines. Exhibiting a loose, child-like fascination with representations of sexual difference and anatomical form, the works are evocative of the curiosity and earnest naiveté characteristic of nascent sexuality

Jacob Goudreault was born in 1985 in Cincinnati, OH. He received his BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2014 and he has had solo exhibitions at Bahamas Biennale, Detroit, MI (2016, 2014, 2013); Dreamboat, Brooklyn, NY (2015); The Green Gallery West, Milwaukee, WI (2012); and The Suburban, Chicago, IL (2006); His work has been exhibited in group exhibitions at a variety of venues including Roots and Culture, Chicago, IL; Knock Knock Gallery, Chicago, IL; and Borderline, Shorewood, WI.
