Super Dakota is delighted to present Routines, a personal exhibition by British artist Lydia Gifford.
The objects come from a bodily experience with material, a tactile response to things.
A cycle of production, diaristic, personal. A chain of movement, stored sequences, phrases, passages. There is no hierarchy of actions and movement, there is not a finished outcome, only a pause, a halting. Movement dictated by previous decisions. A process of discovery, logic unfolding, instinct.
Layers building. Material and body reciprocating. External. Exerting pressure. Resistance. Barrier. Surface. Medium. Control. Delight.
Wrangling material to express something of the present. A diary of activity, repetitive enquiry. Working through the body. Routines. Loosening. Owning. Buried tensions surface, unravel into movement.
